  Here is a phrase we have been hearing more and more! Low Glycemic Foods!  What are Low Glycemic Foods, which ones are High Glycemic and how does a food being Low Glycemic help us lose weight, amongst many other benefits!?   Before I let you in on all the amazing ‘Low GI’ foods you can feel confident eating, let’s just make sure the basics are covered and we all know what the glycemic index is and how it effects your body.   According to Wikipedia, the Glycemic Index is: The glycemic index or glycaemic index (GI) is a number associated with a particular type of food that indicates the food’s effect on a person’s blood glucose (also called blood sugar) level.  The number typically ranges between 50 and 100, where 100 represents the standard, an equivalent amount of pure glucose. Foods that are rated as ‘high’ on the GI index are processed by the human body and enter the blood stream much faster then ‘low’ rated foods, which can cause spiking of blood sugar, hunger and weight gain.  Foods that are lower on the GI index will keep you feeling full for longer, will not spike your blood sugar and allow you to essentially eat more calories. If you have had your ear to the ground in the fitness world at all lately, you might have heard the words ‘Challenge Group’ come up several times. So what is a Beachbody Challenge Group?   Most girls love Pilates or Yoga and going with friends to a studio can be something to look forward to.  Only, have you ever noticed how busy you get and your workout dates are usually the first thing you drop. Let’s get back to basics.  There are 6 things you need more of each day to strive for overall optimal health.     You already know what they are, but it’s all to easy for us to forget about them with our busy and hectic days.  The good news: you can start to make a change right now and start to see immediate results!  If you are constantly feeling fatigued, depressed, tired, cranky or having trouble concentrating, then you need to listen up!   1) Sleep When you were younger, you used to get a TON of sleep.  Why?  Your body was growing, you were running around the yard all day and you didn’t have adult responsibilities.  Somewhere along the line, you started to tell yourself a falsehood about how much sleep you need now that you are all grown up. Deadlines, long hours and stress are keeping us awake longer each night and it is taking a toll on our health. So how much sleep do you need as an adult?  You should always use the 8 hours as a great rule of thumb.  Stop telling yourself 6 hours is enough, it’s not. When you start depriving yourself of sleep night after night, you are left with a ‘sleep debt’ that needs to be repaid if you hope to function properly.   Ah, Lunchtime.  The morning flies by and then, BAM, it’s time to take our lunch break.  If you are like most people these days, you are too busy to think about how to do lunch right and you end up settling for what is quick and easy.  The problem with quick and easy, is it USUALLY means unhealthy and void of any real nutrition.     But what if quick and easy COULD also mean healthy and nutritious?  So before you ask yourself ” What should I have for lunch? ” take a look at some of these ideas to maximize your meal!     Pre-cook The Weeks Lunch On Sunday Write down the 5 things you would LOVE to eat for lunch, and if possible, pre-cook them and freeze them for the upcoming week.  Yes it might take you 1 or 2 hours to do on your Sunday, but at least you have FULL control over your lunches for the next 5 days.  They will be super easy to grab in the morning and take with you!   Change It Up We tend to stray from our diet when we keep eating the same boring food!  Make sure you are changing it up from time to time so you are not getting sick of your fav healthy meals.  Swap out different colored veggies and fruits to keep you visually dialed into your lunch, as well as textures.  Mix up wraps, soups, salads, stews, sandwiches and shakes to keep it interesting!   Feel Full Longer Make sure your lunch is packing enough punch to get you through the...
